This really shouldnt be a surprise. Its a let down for sure as I would assume they would go all in with the final film on bluray. Oh well. Ill still buy it so I can have them all just disappointing I guess.

No audio commentary at all? Not even with Anderson? Wow. Not a good look for the final film.

I think retaliation mode might be commentary?

Sort of like the old "picture-in-picture" thing? Hopefully. At least director's commentary is better than no commentary.

dea, it's been a long time. I don't know what happened to former IMDB regulars who went here shortly then dissapeared. RE film reboot is coming with James Wan as producer{ Saw , Conjuring} here is hoping we get proper respect adaptation from source material with game characters and horror atmosphere.

I hope they stick to horror... i also hope they continue to cast goodlooking women ;)

Jesus, really, already? That was fast.

RE is gonna be the Spiderman of the video game to movie world.

As bad as they are, the Resident Evil films are the highest grossing video game films...not to mention the only video game films being pumped out.

I am all for James Wan directing it. I loved The Conjuring 1 & 2 and the insidious films. However I want horror. I know he can deliver it. In addition I want it to be an adaption of the games. I know, I know, a movie as a straight port of the gsme would suck...not if they did it right though. Not gonna lie, if Sony ever put out a Resident Evil series cgi film that was a beat for beat of the gsme only a 2 hour cinematic for each game i would buy it in a heartbeat.

Honestly that's what most of us RE fans want is to see the game on the big screen being acted out by competent actors. It shouldn't be that hard.

I've been saying that about ORC forever. That longass trailer they put out with the Spec Ops taking on Wolf Pack (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar-qKACbnkg) should have been for a new CGI film instead of the disappointing game we got and I would have loved it. But nooooooooo.

I wonder whether or not audiences who aren't die hard fans of the video games would enjoy a simple filming of the resident evil video game... seems like it would need something more...

in a video game, the player is in control and associates with and acts through his on screen avatar... the film going experience is passive, the director is in control and it is his sensibility that is being communicated to the viewer... it's a very different experience

Wan is Not directing it though. he is just a producer.

So I got to watch the Blu-ray and the "retaliation" mode. It is a sort of commentary. Sort of. It's Milla and Paul and every so often they interrupt the movie to talk about various things. As in, the movie stops and there's footage of them sitting in front of a white screen talking with each other. It's much less about The Final Chapter specifically and more about the series as a whole with a lot of general talk.

After the first interrupt where they introduce themselves they talk about:

-Starting the franchise, Milla wanting to be a part of it, and why Paul created all new characters.

-The character of Alice and how she's grown/changed over the franchise. (Nothing specifically about her in the Final Chapter, only that she's changed a lot from the first film.)

-Ever playing the Red Queen/Alicia (an interesting note here about how Ever was only originally supposed to play Alicia/have her three scenes and no dialogue and that's it. The Red Queen was going to be completely CGI, but they needed a stand in model on set for reference, so they had Ever do it, and then they thought she was so good they decided to actually give her the full part. But they don't reveal anything more about the character.)

-The upside down fight

-Zombies, and how they appear on screen throughout the franchise (makeup wise very basic in the first film, and then more and more detailed; they don't say much at all about what the zombies actually are in the films/how they've mutated and changed except: in the first film they're "fresh" zombies, and in the Final Chapter they're meant to be like animals and are actually fighting each other.)

-The fight with Joon-Gi and how amazing they thought he was/how much Milla enjoyed working with him. (They don't talk about the character.)

-The zombie dogs. (Paul says he wanted to use the most popular monsters from the games in the franchise and the big ones were the dogs. Milla says they're her favorite. For the Final Chapter they wanted to change the dogs to full CGI because they thought they'd done everything they could with real dogs. Took four days to shoot scene where they run from the dogs. Paul said it reminded him of the scene from the first game where they run from the dogs into the mansion.)

-The Hive (basically Paul just finds the idea of underground spaces fascinating and he got to reference Alice in Wonderland, that's pretty much all they say about it.)

-The Bloodshot sequence (Milla says it's her favorite part of the Final Chapter, again they say nothing about where the character came from. It was just fun to do.)

-The Isaacs/Alice fight (this is mostly just Paul talking about how cool it was visually to have the lasers blast the dirt off the glass. He also says his favorite shot is Alice running from the lasers and going up the door and doing the split. Nothing about Isaacs or Iain Glen.)

-Alice dying or not (Milla says in the original script Alice did die. Paul said he thinks the ending as it is just as emotional and he thinks to kill her would have been a slap in the face to fans of the character. Paul adds that the "memory disc" bit is the scene he's most proud of. Interesting note, a lot of the footage in the memories is Paul and Milla's own.)

-Then they say thank you and goodbye.

That's it. Nothing about the new characters, nothing about Wesker or Claire or Dr. Isaacs or their respective actors, nothing about the missing characters. Nothing about the plot whys and what-fors. Maybe there's more in the other bonus features, but somehow I'm kind of doubting it.

I actually enjoyed ORC and yes that trailer would have made for one hell of a movie had they done it...instead we keep getting Leon in everything. Will say if they kill him off in vendetta I will cheer and give a standing ovation. He is the worst character they could have brought back. He had no stakes in anything he just went from rookie cop to presidents secret agent. There are more characters that I can think of that are more qualified and better for the job.

Either way, yeah I would love a resident evil film following the events of the first game. It could be awesome if someone tried to stick to the actual source material either adding new things or subtracting stuff that doesn't flow well.

The most interesting thing I learned was that Milla insisted on redubbing her entire performance in Apocalypse because she sounded too much like her real life "nasally" voice.
