Über die Jahreszeiten hinweg begleiten die Dokumentarfilmer die Tier- und Pflanzenwelt heimischer Wälder. Gezeigt wird Vertrautes wie das Spiel junger Rehkitze und Frischlinge. Die besondere Faszination machen aber die vielen Szenen aus, die nur die wenigsten Menschen je selbst gesehen haben dürften: ein Kampf zwischen Hirschkäfern, ein Eichelhäher, der sich von Ameisen besprühen lässt, Fichtenzapfen, aus denen Hunderte Samen auf den Schnee gleiten. Grimme-Preisträger Benno Fürmann (40) führt in angenehm zurückhaltenden Sätzen durch den Film.
