In real life, absolutely Self Defense. In the movie world, 15 years for manslaughter because he had Special Forces Training. If anything he should have been pissed at his lawyer. But at least the guy he killed in the beginning was Waingro from Heat

This was on last night so I watched the first half hour or so. I didn't catch who took the knife away after Poe kills the guy. I think his lawyer was an idiot. I agree with Poe, I would have been very reluctant to plead guilty as well. Should have been clearly self defense, special training or not. Also, I did not realize until reading the post above that the guy he killed was Waingro from Heat! No wonder he was so annoying! Too bad they didn't serve pie in the bar, maybe he would have been more chill.

Adam Carolla had a funny bit about this on his podcast, a while back. Speaking as the main baddie's drinking buddies:
"Earl, why are we standing around, in the rain, waiting to knife a US serviceman who just wanted to dance with his wife? You're the one being a d*ck, here!"
