The whole time I was watching this, I thought the mom looked like a man. I didn't expect her to actually be one though. 
Also, what was up with Mickey at the end? The implication is that she was evil too, but I don't see how this fits in, unless she was pretending to not know about the dad being alive, or that Julio was murdered.

Wow, I know it's been three years since the question was asked, but here goes anyway: I think the ending scene was probably just a tease that didn't mean anything. Since there was never a sequel, I go with it not making sense and something to just be ignored.
I also was sure the "actress" playing the mother was a man, but I didn't see how that was going to fit into the plot until the youngest daughter told her version of the events "that night" and said after she heard crunching noises she heard her father's voice - then it suddenly added up.
