Discuss Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

There's fun to be had from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which is colourful and lively with striking choreography, and flashes of wit in the banter between the backwoods brothers. The great disappointment, for me, was the score. For such a well-regarded musical, the songs are largely unmemorable (although the introductory 'Bless Your Beautiful Hide' is catchy enough). None of the other numbers lingered in my mind for even a moment after they had ended, and some were downright dreary.

I HAVE SEEN THIS "MOVIE" DOZENS OF TIMES...IT WAS MY GRANDMOTHERS FAVORITE FILM....I THINK I COULD RECREATE IT FROM MEMORY IF NEEDED.

I really agree with you, rudely murray. Forgettable songs do not a strong musical make. My first thought upon watching the film was that it's highly overrated.

still a great film in spite of an uneven score, which I only partially agree with you. Unlike like some of the great musicals where everything is a hit, this one suffers here and there but I think "Goin' Courtin", "Sobbin' Women" , "lonesome polecat" and "Spring, Spring, Spring" work well with the story.

it's. also heavily dialectical which may contribute to an awkwardness. Still a sweet film.
