Many years ago I've seen The Wicker Man remake from 2006 with Nicolas Cage, which is a legendary bad movie but so bad it turns to be one of the best unintentional comedies ever. I laughed out loud during that entire movie!

I always heard and suspectec that since it was a remake of an original horror-esque movie that the original movie was massively superior.

Well I've finally seen the original movie (the Final Cut version) and I was shocked how poor it is. In fact, I rated the 2006 version a 3/10 (10/10 as entertaining and comedic factors) but now I rate the original movie a 4/10...

The original movie is boring, rather uninteresting, the acting is ridiculous, the characters are as ridiculous, the dialogue is stupid, the pace is rather slow.

The only saving graces are Christopher Lee (yet it's his worst villain role ever) and the soundtrack and music.

I really wanted to like this movie but I'm shocked how this gets high reviews and it's considered a classic.

The cop begins as a normal cop doing his job and then turns into a religious freak who starts caring more about religion instead of trying to do his own job.

All characters who interact with him have laughable interactions and the blonde girl Willow always appearing naked while dancing and the cop being sweating was so pathetic, so out of place, it made me stop taking seriously anything further that was happening onscreen.

And Christopher Lee's character then starts dressing like a woman, dancing and chanting gibberish was supposed to make us not taking him seriously at all as well...?

And the "twist" was hysterical! By the way: how in the bloody hell did that community even knew the cop was a virgin??? HOW??? Awful writing!

What a HUGE disappointment!

I agree, the original is NOT a classic (even though most men will say it is but that's only because Britt Eklund is naked) for a good amount of the movie). I gave it a 2/10 but the remake? OMG is that a horrible movie, I gave it 1/10 (I would have given it negative stars if that was possible)!

That's not true. I'm sure pretty much all versions begin by showing him giving a reading in Church. Yeah, he's a cop but he's quite deliberately shown to be deeply religious right from the off. It sets up the moral conflict with Summerisle.

She appears naked in one scene. Not exactly out of place as it is again (following the Church scene) used to show us the unshakeable faith / religious spirit of Howie. The islanders are testing his him and confirming his suitability for their "requirements".

Not sure if this was ever even supposed to be a "twist". Maybe for Howie but within the context of the film - i.e. us watching Howie investigating the disappearance of a girl feared sacrificed following the failed harvest - not really so much of a surprise.

It is a fair question re how they knew of his suitability but like I said the initial scene does set him up as a puritan. How they knew how to target him does seem to be missing from some versions but there is one in which we see him on the mainland receiving the letter and picture of Rowan, so from that one at least we can assume someone from the community has singled him out on the mainland.

Incorrect. It's the truth that the cop was normal at first and then turns into a religious freak during the movie. One thing is a cop beliving in God, another thing is when he starts talking religious gibberish instead of rational thoughts every time.

And Willow is NOT naked in just one scene, sh'e naked in manyb things, another characters as well.

And the twist was so poorly written.

The 2006 remake is a comedy masterpiece. LMAO!

LOL 😂 Okay, I just looked out the Final Cut as, like I said, I can't remember exactly between versions but the very first scene - the FIRST thing we see - is Howie not only attending a Sunday Church service and taking communion but standing the pulpit and giving a Bible reading to the ENTIRE congregation!

How can you possibly have missed this? He is very clearly shown as not "normal at first" but a man of deep religious faith... In other news it turns out that Darth Vader is revealed as Luke Skywalker's dad in The Empire Strikes Back!

Apart from the Willow's Song segment, when else was she naked? I don't recall that at all...

And you are wrong once again.

That first scene with Howie I hoenstly can't remember if it was there, I don't remember anything like that in the beginning. The first time we see him he's on the plane arriving at the community. What are you talking about?

And that's irrelevant. Didn't you even read what I say? He's a COP! Cops do not start talking about religious gibberish and make it prevail instead of logic! How aren't you udnerstanding what I'm saying? The cop going or not to the Church is totally irrelevant.

And yes, Willow is naked in several scenes, not only the dancing scene. And many other characters appear naked totally out of place.

No, you are 100% incorrect. Like I just said - I've literally just put the Final Cut blu ray in so I could be sure and the the first scene is Howie in the Church!

Dude the film is only like 80/85 minutes or something - How could you possibly have missed the key opening scene establishing him as a deeply religious man of faith? It's ludicrous to have done that then try claiming he's just some normal guy who turns religious half way through the film...

And again re Willow - Please name just one other scene. Any one of these "several" other naked scenes will do. Thanks 👍

I was barely paying attention when I watched it and even I remember what you said. The film may be a dud for other reasons, but OP is wayy off base on this one.

Him going to the church is absolutely irrelevant. He's a COP! Many cops from our countries are religious but they do NOT use Religion over logic. Why can't you understand what's obvious?

And yes, Willow has several naked scenes, not just that one scene.

Nope. YOU and the other guy are both totally wrong.

LOL. Okay, nice attempted switch but these are YOUR initial words not mine. If you want to switch it to being you don't like the fact that he's a religious cop then that's another story from this "normal" guy turned "religious freak.

But anyway, nothing more to add here - anyone reading this can clearly see you're simply trolling rather really debating the film. Same reason I've asked you continuously to give one other named example of Willow being naked, i.e. because I know for an absolute fact there isn't one and therefore all you can do is ambiguously deflect...

Until next time Harry 👍

You are wrong and you are obviously trolling.

The Cop turned into a RELIGIOUS FREAK! What the hell has this got to do with him being in a Church? Since when do cops who go to the Church turn into religious freaks who don't care about facts and logical thinking?

And Willow was naked plenty of times. Watch the movie again.

Everyone can read and understand you are wrong and clearly trolling. Nice try.

Give it a rest Harry, at this point you’re ranting insensibly.

Let me give you a 10 second education in the language of classic cinema: always pay close attention to the opening scenes. As ‘boring’ as it may seem, that’s where the filmmaker introduces crucial themes that will be revisited at the climax and denouement.

In this case you missed it completely, the duality of the cop’s established religious beliefs (church) pitted against the cult (fanaticism) and the fine line differentiating the two. Even after Midi tried to remind you of this key hint, you keep denying it.

So you come across as a total troll, like going to the Star Wars board and ranting that Darth Vader can’t be Luke Skywalker’s dad because they don’t have the same last name! And anyone who disagrees is WRONG! 🙄

Stop with the nonsense. YOU are wrong and YOU are a massive troll who can't read normal English.

You are wrong. The cop turned into a RELIGIOUS FREAK who put religion over logical and rational thoughts as a cop. NO sane cop would do that.

In the beginning we seeing him the church is absolutely irrelevant concerning the faults I'm mentioning.
