Discusión Teen Wolf Too

Did that actually exist in the 1980s? I can't remember ever hearing about college boxing teams back then. Much less students getting scholarships to box.

Just off the top of my head... I recall that the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) was founded in 1976 as a non-profit, autonomous organization whose goal was to provide a safe, positive experience for student athletes pursuing the sport of boxing. The association, today, falls under the auspices of USA Boxing. After 1960, the NCAA no longer sanctioned boxing.

NCBA member schools are encouraged to develop their instructional and intramural programs with emphasis on the teaching of fundamental novice boxing skills. In order to be eligible to participate in an NCBA member school, a collegiate boxer must be a full-time student at an accredited institution at which he/she is attending for graduation.

Or, something like that... if I remember right.

That sounds more like an intramural sort of thing. I don't think they have coaches paid by the schools or do recruiting or scholarships. Or students pay any attention to it.

But I guess it does exist in some form at some places, though nothing like we see here in this movie.

Again, I'm just going by memory, but I believe participating schools are divided into three sub-associations, by region:

Eastern Collegiate Boxing Association

Kutztown University

Lock Haven University

Mansfield University of Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania State University

Pennsylvania State University - Harrisburg

Shippensburg University

United States Military Academy (Army)

University of Massachusetts - Amherst

United States Coast Guard Academy

University of Connecticut

Trinity University, Hartford, CT

Midwest Collegiate Boxing Association

Iowa State University

Miami University

Ohio State University

United States Naval Academy (Navy)

University of Cincinnati

University of Kansas

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

West Virginia University

Xavier University

University of Iowa

Far West Collegiate Boxing Association

California State University, Northridge

San José State University

Santa Clara University

United States Air Force Academy (Air Force)

University of California, Berkeley

University of California, Davis

University of California, Los Angeles

University of San Francisco

University of Southern California

University of Nevada, Reno

University of Nevada, Las Vegas

University of Washington, Seattle

University of Oregon

Oregon state University

But, I may be mistaken about Lock Haven University. My mind isn't as sharp as it once was.

Your recall is impressive, Halberstram, but the point I was getting at is that its an odd premise for a movie made in the 80s.

I think an odder premise is the idea of a man turning into a wolf.

I think the evidence of werewolves existing is probably stronger the evidence that students cared about college boxing in the 80s.

I really think you're wrong.

I've been attempting to prove the existence of werewolves, or lycanthropy, for thirty years.

My old, college boxing coach keeps telling me that it's a wild goose chase.
