Discuss Thelma y Louise

in Alien and this is considered Ridley Scott's lasting ode to womankind!? I get that a sort of road movie with women in the lead roles will have been distinct at the time, but this film alienated me in so many ways. There were serious, grim things in it, but it was so light-hearted... but it wasn't a comedy (dark or otherwise). The characters all behaved inconsistently (victim of a traumatic sex attack immediately flirts with the next guy she meets, gets robbed by him but doesn't seem cut up about it. Keitel seems to think the girls were only in trouble after the armed robbery (which was after a murder need I add) and is cut up about a pair of gun toting murders who hold up one of his colleagues at gunpoint?

Towards the end with the traced phone calls and police chase it felt like if Burt Reynolds and an Orangutan had passed by it would have added some gravitas.

Plus some of the acting took me right out of it. Madsen going through his one trick, the husband and the FBI guy seemed to think they were in a comedy. I didn't even buy the chemistry with two leads. The film just immediately wants us to believe these two women are great friends, but doesn't set that up satisfactorily to me. Thelma looked like she loathed Louise early on when Louise effectively blamed Thelma for the situation in the car park and prior to that Louise seemed to hate Thelma for being so rude to her and just going off dancing. If they'd made it to their fishing trip (without crashing from all their drink driving) then I think they would have ended up killing each other, but they are meant to be best buddies?

I've massive respect for Ridley Scott but I think I would have enjoyed things far more if the road trip had been more consistently light hearted (like a female Thunderbolt and Lightfoot) or if he'd done a different film and presented a more serious female figure like Ripley in a non-sci fi film (making it more accessible to the mass audience he was aiming for here).

I didn't get this on any level and I can give this a very surprised and perplexed 4/10. No hate, just bemusement.
