If you viewed this at any point during your childhood, you no doubt still remember it to this day, and how much it captured the imagination.
It's the simple charmingly special - but in parts decidedly dark - story of a few days in the goings-about of a little French boy, whose faithful new companion and friend is a red balloon.
The film's ending is quite troubling (mainly when viewed in adulthood), though! (When the boy is taken up, up, and away, it seems unlikely that he'll ever be returned.)
Here that treasure is, from 1956.
And, here's the TCM.com article about it.

That's a good one for anyone who likes short films. Great pick.

I've always loved The Red Balloon. I remember it at least a time or two being shown in school when I was a kid.

On a semi-related note, I haven't seen this yet, but it looks interesting.

Neat! Thanks, Cell. I'll at some point seek that movie out.
By the way, the YouTube link I posted of the full The Red Balloon movie in this thread's OP has, unfortunately, become unusable as the film's copyright owner had that posting pulled the other day. That's a shame, as the movie, there, was crystal clear, in HD, and was the pristine restored version (not a cloudy pre-restoration copy).
Here's what YT presently has for that movie.
I just noticed also this there - The Revenge of the Red Balloon. lol

If you watch soon (before it gets pulled down), I see a quite good copy of it's presently on YT. It may be gone before long.

Just finished watching this a little earlier this evening. What a film! I thought it was captivating, inspiring, and utterly beautiful. I can see some spiritual allegory within it as well, though it's very open to interpretation. So pure, simple, and wholesome, the film just made me feel happy again.
