full frontal Ilia.

Shatner without a wig.

Retaining Disco Bones for the entire film.

No awkward out of the blue dialogue like "My oath of celibacy is on record, Captain."

Tribbles.

OP, I think you meant "could have"... go on and call me a grammar Nazi if you like, guys. Anyway, yeah, Ilia was pretty hot....

Less "Enterprise porn" .

It was the first Star Trek movie a decade after the series was cancelled.

The fans wanted to see the Enterprise in detail on the big screen.

As for the plot, that's the down side of the studio execs deciding to turn a TV show pilot for Star Trek Phase II into a movie. That's why random elements feel out of place.

They really paused and wrote a movie script instead.

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the story that couldn't have been fixed with tighter editing and a faster pace, speed it up and make it about 30 minutes shorter and you have a good movie.

That could have been better explained, but she is supposed to come from a highly sexualized species for sex is a greeting like shaking hands. Starfleet would not accept her unless she took an oath of celibacy because otherwise she would present a distraction for the crew.

Hey, if you hadn't said it, I would have! Proper grammar is important.
