Discuss Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I saw this in cinema on the day it was released. It was my schools sports carnival and my mother said we could take the day off. We went to a newly made cineplex in a mall, which were still abit of a novelty as most cinemas were still one theatre back then where I lived.

Although being much darker than the tv series, I still enjoyed it. The action was top notch and the story line solid (even though the genesis story was different and no Krane.)

I then remember that it appeared on video on a few months after its cinema run, which was a surprise.

As I've gotten older I still enjoy it, because it was never aimed at its biggest market... kids.

It's a shame the sequels were kidified to appease parents who said the movie was too violent.

Yes, I think it's a great film too, it's definitely the most faithful film adaptation to the original comic books which weren't meant for kids. It's a pity the sequels didn't have the guts to be dark as well, TMNT2 tried to be more like the 80's animated show, I've not seen that one but I am willing to give that one a try. TMNT3 however just fails at completely everything including not looking like a TMNT movie... And don't me started with Bay Turtles, those movies were made purely for money and not for the fans, also the Turtles in this version look horrendous.

yes it was.

Nope, it was based up the comics which weren't written for children. Marketing may have aimed at kids but that wasn't the movies intention.

was kids movie.. no sex

the 80s cartoon was based on the comic, as well.

it may not have played down to kids as if they were retards but it rounded all the edges of graphic violence and played up the characters' silliness fairly nakedly.

Easily the best of the 3 early films. I did not like the fact that 3 was such a step down. But this one can stand on its own. The sequel was goofy and less violent but still halfway decent.
