It's the comedy and light hearted fun of this flick that makes this movie so effective as an anti-war flick. It starts with the extreme violence and brutality of war but then reels us into a fantasy parallel universe where war doesn't exist and mortal enemies are friends. I can't think of a better way to show it. Honorable mention goes to the Sinatra flick "None But the Brave" which has a similar story but not as much lively fun as we see here, not as much of the human side of soldiers.
