He looked so pale and wouldn't he have an oder? I'm surprised it took him towards the end to realize it

Notice how he mostly visits him in the dark, usually from a decent distance. Plus the way he moved was real enough for ANYONE. I also imagine in creating her "perfect doll", she would've taken precautions against that, he was probably very hollow inside in order to make him a puppet.
Its not a perfect rebuttal, but ya gotta suspend beliefe a little when it comes to horror.
