Discuss Mirror

I will save you a lot of disappointment with this information; the author had fun and I don't think anyone better than him can understand this film! It is an association of eras and images to die for boredom! I wanted to know why some liked it, so we watched it to the end, others fell asleep in the middle and we are still looking for the point of making a film without a story. I have the impression that the testimonies of complacency and the good grades are up to the ego of people who believe themselves to be learned or intelligent ... In short, run away from this film!

It's not quite that bad for me, I gave it 4/10, but I did find it lacking. The only Tartovsky films I really rate are Ivan's Childhood and especially Andrei Rublev. Looking at his output I notice they were both in the 60s and I actually think he gradually lost his grasp on how to make a coherent and engaging film in all his work after that decade, especially after his next film, Solaris (which still retained some good qualities). Yet it is his films in the 70s and 80s seem to be the most acclaimed, so go figure. Perhaps a compromise is to say that his films of the 60s are more accessible and very good, and the later ones are more of an acquired taste.

If you really disliked Mirror I'd avoid anything after Solaris, and possibly Solaris itself. I suggest Stalker is worth watching purely to test your limits!

Thanks for the recommendation (Ivan's Childhood). I'll say, at least Mirror is a nice-looking film. I mean, I saw it on VHS tape years ago, and even that was a great viewing experience, strictly in terms of viewing.
