"In the Middle Ages Claus (David Huddleston) and his wife Anya (Judy Cornwell) are saved from a blizzard by elves and brought to the North Pole."

"In the 20th century he gets an assistant, elf Patch (Dudley Moore), who designs a machine to increase production. This goes horribly wrong when it malfunctions."

Loved this movie as a kid. Still fun to watch. One scene that always stuck with me was when the little girl brings dinner and a Coca Cola out to the homeless kid.
