The director should have kept original ending

The ending where Lucas dies in the hospital would have been extremely somber and much more memorable. The movie would most likely have received more acclaim and recognition as well. I hope the ending sees the light of day sometime in the future.

So was that the original ending? I came to ask what it was.
IDK, I think him dying would be too dramatic. The movie is alrdy too utopic, with the alpha guy being nice to him and the alpha girl also treating him so well, and him being so determined to be successful. It'd be out of the window if he'd also become a dead martyr.
The movie is about ppl being superficial and falling in love for the top alpha individuals and looking for social approval. Lucas was the same, he just wasn't strong enough, he ignored Rina the whole time and wanted to be on the soccer team. Who knows how he'd behave if he was as strong as he wished to.
It fits better on the movie that he earns social acceptance and is applauded by the bullies, a scene completely utopic but which shows his real superficiality, than an ending that martyrs him.
