It scares me of what ppl are able to do. But scares me even more how ppl are capable of watching such things and just let it happen, to the point they just join it.
I don't understand how some ppl, apparently normal, are able to feel pleasure on causing suffer.
Gertrudes started it and ordered her children to torture her, but after some time they started doing it without suggestion. They brought friends home to watch and have fun torturing her, and they just did it!
How come so many ppl knew, and nobody cared? And most of them barely were punished and just moved on and had normal lives. I'd be damn scared if I knew somebody who did such things was living close to me!
The worst of them all IMO is her sister. She watched it all and never tried to help her. They tried to make a movie on the 80's to pay homage to Sylvia and help keep her memory alive, and for 2 decades she made it not happen!
I had lived situations of groups of ppl banding together to harass and defame me, and the characterization in this movie of what they made on her made me fell deep. I'm glad nothing worse had happened to me, but I know that many many ppl are capable of such things and most don't do it just because they don't have the chance. All they need is a small push and a proper environment where torture is considered acceptable and somebody is blamed to deserve it, and they will feast.
I say that not even to such ppl it's acceptable to torture and cause suffering. They should all had get lifetime conviction. But never be tortured.

Yeah, it's hard to watch and the story is enraging. Never under estimate the ability of people to band together in order to act on their innermost desires. I don't think you can teach depravity, I think it's something that just has to be present to manifest as action when the conditions are right. It's often said that people are basically good, but I'm not so sure.

How come u compare both?! Reality shows are made under consent. Even stuff like Panico na TV that had multiple injuries and reports of sexual harassment, they are handsomely well paid to do such things and are allowed to quit whenever they want!
Even so, there were a handful of cases on Big Brother over 2 decades when policy and public ministry intervened and investigated stuff that was happening. When crimes happen or are reported, they do are investigated. There are also cases of children working on TV that were forced to quit by authorities due to labor laws infringement.
