Based on a Joseph Conrad novel ("The Secret Agent"), it was apparent by this time that Hitch's favorite genre was suspense above all else. Although not as great or polished as some of his later films, it is historically interesting and well constructed. Fine performances from a good cast, and definitely worth seeing. Oskar Homolka is deliciously corrupt in this noir film about an average guy who gets sucked into a criminal conspiracy to bomb various London locations to terrorize the populace.

Sixties, if you really dig B & W Hitch suspense films, check out The 39 Steps (if you haven't already). What a great ending it has!

I've seen all of Hitchcock's films at least once, many several times. That is an excellent film, and Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll are splendid together. We lost Donat way too soon (age 53, cerebral thrombosis due to brain tumor) .
I like not only Hitch's b&w films (and his two b&w TV series), but also several color films. I think my favorite of his is North by Northwest. Vertigo was recently named the best film ever made by the Directors Guild of America, supplanting longtime champ Citizen Kane.

I’m not a big fan of North by Northwest. It sounds like you really know your stuff when it’s about Hitch.
