They made a joke about this movie on The Boondocks and the premise sounded so ridiculous that I thought they just made up the movie for the sake of the show. Turns out it was real.

Yea, it didn't do much at all for me. For some reason, I'm usually glad to see Method Man get another acting part, post-The Great White Hype (which I liked).

I would be in HEAVEN if my local theater had nothing but a classic line up in all of its showrooms. They could do certain decades on certain days. 30s night, 40s night, 80s night. I would friggin' live there.

This place you're describing sounds almost like a grindhouse, ha.

Yep, a grindhouse indeed. Perhaps a modern day one. But the old school grindhouses played B and C films that looked like it had the production value of a high school play. I was just a kid not even old enough to get into the movies by myself and I remember seeing grindhouse theaters with triple features of kung fu flicks with HORRIBLE dubbing. Of course those days are over and now all we have is these big triple AAA multiplexes that only play Hollywood schlock. Man, I miss those days.

Right... I think mecha was referring to that C. Thomas Howell starrer wherein he takes a bunch of pills to acquire some melanin... as corny and silly as it is, I guess Soul Man had something of a budget. Therefore, it might overqualify from being a true "grindhouse" film.

Oh, I totally remember that film. As a matter of fact, I saw it in the theaters. Gimme a break, I was like 13 years old. But Howell was still riding high on his Outsiders fame when that was released and not exactly a B film actor. Heck, I remember him in a bunch of films then that were quite popular like Red Dawn and The Hitcher . So, sought after Hollywood star? No, but he sure as hell was no grindhouse film actor.
