1936年11月，整个马德里笼罩在法西斯血腥的轰炸之中。轰炸机所到之处，生灵涂炭、房屋被毁，到处呈现出一片浓烟四起、残垣断壁之象。为了保护珍藏在普拉多博物馆内一批珍贵的艺术品，议会决定将全部艺术品随政府一起转移至相对安全的瓦伦西亚。当满载艺术品的车队出发后，一直在博物馆从事保安工作的马诺尔却在一个不太被人注意的角落发现了一幅被遗忘的、著名艺术大师戈雅的一幅自画像。就在此时，又一轮轰炸在博物馆的上空开始了，马诺尔四顾无人后，只好怀揣着画像随同避难的人群钻进了防空洞。

After the Spanish Civil War breaks out, the Prado Museum is being evacuated. One of the guards finds a painting by the master, Goya, and takes it to prevent damage to the work of art. In the interim, he meets a young lady with whom he falls in love. Assisted by her and her family members, the soldier attempts to save Goya's masterpiece intact amidst the war and violence.

En plena guerra civil española, los bombardeos amenazan el Museo del Prado. Las autoridades ordenan la evacuación de las obras de arte. Manuel, un celador del Museo encuentra un autorretrato de Goya perdido en el traslado de las obras. El joven no duda en proteger a toda costa el cuadro poniendo en peligro su vida y la de su familia.
