This has long been one of my favourite films. I first saw it on TV when I was a kid - it was one of the first 'old' movies I saw and has remained one of my most beloved movies ever since. The photography and sets are breathtaking, the special effects still magical. Sabu is an irresistable hero, Conrad Veidt one of the great hissable villains. Certain sequences - the Sultan's collection of magical toys, the first appearance of the Djinn - still entertain and enthrall today. One can only imagine how it must have looked, in all its Technicolor glory, to audiences in 1940.

I remember that film as a kid and loved it. Was that the one with the flying carpet? Anyway, I've always watched similar movies.
Another favourite was Jason and the Argonauts

Yes, that's the one! The flying carpet sequences are simply magical. I have to also shout-out the 1924 silent version of the story with Douglas Fairbanks, which also boasts some mind-boggling sets and effects.
Jason and the Argonauts is a favourite, as is The 7th Voyage of SInbad. Ray Harryhausen was one of the heroes of my childhood!
