Discuss The Talented Mr. Ripley

This is my favorite movie. I also read the book and enjoyed movie much more since it did a much better job at portraying Tom.

incredible film... beautifully shot and acted, yet immersive...

the themes this movie explores, playing a role in an adult world, being an imposter, people's expectations, lust, love, deception... so good, it does it so masterfully. nothing is really explained, it's just shown or hinted at... current filmmakers should take note

i wish there were more films like this... movies for an adult audience that are entertaining as they are thought provoking and moving

That rating is one shortcoming that TMDB has that IMDB doesn't, namely that IMDB uses parallel ratings for both critics and users. User scores, imo, are too easily swayed by large "fan camps" that can flood a board with either overwhelmingly positive or negative scores. I was reading just the other day about how Amy Schumer's latest special on NETFLIX is getting savaged on the IMDB ratings, but if you look the comments giving it one star reviews are less about the comedy and more about her politics.

I suspect that some of the reviews here also mix politics and film, namely raters' views of Matt Damon, so I'd take the 70% with a degree of skepticism.

Yes, it's underrated here. I just gave my best to boost the rating up, with little immediate effect though. This one really deserves sit at 8 or even a little bit higher.

I rated this 50% - stupid ending.
