It wasn't well received by critics at the time it was released, but I think it is awesome. Catherine Deneuve is perfectly cast as the icy, beautiful Miriam. David Bowie and Susan Sarandon are also excellent in their roles.
It captures the weird and wonderful 80's. Plus, it features the awesome song Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus.. Love it!

I enjoyed it. Did anyone else have any trouble following the storyline, especially toward the end??

It's a great movie that doesn't get enough recognition.

To my memory, when David Bowie's character changed form, it got a wee bit vague for me.

Loved this film!
It introduced me to Bauhaus and the Flower Duet song, both of which are in my Spotify Liked Songs to this day, Whitley Strieber, whose writings I used to keep up with until his "abduction", and Tony Scott. I remember being so stoked to see "Top Gun" and what he'd do with a big budget, only to be sorely disappointed. Far too much cheesiness/"manliness" and far too little fighter plane action for my tastes.
Recently retrieved my DVDs from storage - might have to put this on!

David Bowie still doesn't get enough "love" for my satisfaction to this day--not to say you should give it to him--your list of likes just made me think of him in the film.
To me, no two Bowie roles were acted the same way.

True, but it was still a crushing disappointment. At least Scott went on to make a bunch of good 'uns.
Side note: I then, foolishly, pinned my hopes on "Wings of the Apache" ("Firebirds") which promised to be Top Gun, done right, with helicopters (even cooler!) but turned out to miss the "done right" part of the equation. Only "Les Chevaliers du ciel" ("Sky Fighters") managed to come close to what I thought "Top Gun" would be a couple of decades later.
