Just watched this, I didn't really like it that much because although I like this kind of thing usually, it dragged on and there wasn't a whole lot going on. But that ending wow, that really blew my mind. Not only does the star die (I hate sad endings but credit for being unpredictable!), but the conspiracy doesn't get outed, and then does he use her scream for his movie? WTF! The 70s were dark as fuck. Yeah I know it was 1981 but it was a very 70s movie in every way.

I saw this movie many years ago and thought the premise was quite clever. I enjoy movies about piecing together clues to resolve a crime. Yes the ending was pretty morbid. I think I have the movie somewhere on DVD...time to give this movie another watch. Thanks.

Yeah it is worth a watch. I really like John Travolta, imo that guy was kind of robbed during his career. He is better than people gave him credit for. Handsome sob as well.. And the girl was cute. Also this feels very not-far-fetched now that I know what I know about the world. This was actually strangely realistic in a lot of ways, they were so on the money with the handlers showing up after the event to massage the truth, tell people not to say this and that, tell other people to leave town, paying off people, etc. Creepy business. Film nails it. Deserved a bigger budget and maybe another writer to look over the script imo. I love dramas and there are not many good ones. Reminds me of In The Line of Fire, that is not a whole lot better than this movie yet I bet it had a budget many times bigger.

I watched this movie last night. Still a good watch for me. It's a little dated with the tech, but I think it stills holds up pretty well storywise. Yeah I'd forgotten Travolta was a pretty good looking guy when he was younger. Yeah, I liked the political intrigue angle too...how political agendas give rise to conspiracy. Crazy seeing John Lithgow in drama after so used to seeing him in comedy. Big fan of In the Line of Fire...another movie I should watch soon.

I thought all that too! I saw Travolta recently in People vs OJ and he was great but yeah... I forgot when he was younger he was very handsome. Time is a sob, I'm reminded every time I look in the mirror :( The political aspect was cool, I am 100% sure this is exactly how this world works today. I told my dad about this film and he said it sounded like the Kennedy story (the brother not JFK). I need to look that up. And yeah, John Lithgow! If you haven't seen it you should watch the first 5 or so seasons of Dexter. Great show and Lithgow was amazing in that. I remember seeing a lot of people talking about how they found it amazing to see the funny dad from 3rd Rock From the Sun doing a creepy bad guy role, but it just goes to show how good he is. And in this film he is doing it far earlier again.

John Travolta was good in this crime drama. John Lithgow played a psychotic criminal in "Cliffhanger (1993)".
