Discuss TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR

I just think it's very unfair that this concert film is ranked higher than much cinematic masterpieces like Oppenheimer and Spider-Man: No Way Home here on this site. For me, concert films or regristrations of Broadway musicals are not actually films! For me, a film is something in which went real effort from MANY, MANY people! You got actors that study the most iconic and beautiful lines in their head and wear the best outfits, going into the role of a totally different person. You need the underpaid writings to write such good lines and dialogue. Directors are needed to let everything go fine and cameramen are there to make the most beautiful shots. Most of the films need CGI workers to bring the most incredible shots to live, and for the directors that don't use CGI like Nolan, they crash real Boeing-747's and drop real nukes if they could! And than they go striking because the studios pay unfairly! But during the strikes, there was one girl, one stupid girl with a more stupid fandom behind here, that could just do whatever she wanted because she's Taylor Swift. Than you got the Swifties cult behind her, who are more biased than any other fan of a certain franchise or brand to ever exist. Than you get the fact that concert films are easily ranked so much higher than most masterpieces, because a concert film got a whole different kind of critiria than regular films! That way, concert films and musical regristrations are treated like actual films, while they don't got any right so because it's a whole different type of sport. The same would be if we would compare soccer/football and basketball, or apples with pears! We just can't do that! Instead, go to your theater and watch an actual film and not a concert made into a film for no reason! Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, Oppenheimer, Barbie, Napoleon, Five Nights At Freddy's, Wonka, litterly anything that isn't a cashgrab like the Eras Tour non-film...

Wow your description & the Abney Park page really got me curious. To me it doesn't necessarily have to be prog; I'm drawn by the idea of blending music & story. It's basically cinema except coming from the other direction (music) rather than tacking music on as an afterthought.

You would be most intrigued by the hardest to find one! stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye Normally Abney Park are pretty good at releasing stuff to YouTube, but this album seems pretty locked down. Maybe Captain Robert is hoping the musical might still go ahead?

They definitely clamped down hard! I've been searching the usual... uh, less than legit sources... and I can't find a peep 🤬

I think you may be over-estimating the band's organisational skills - they're pretty ramshackle! I'd suspect it's more likely that sales were low enough that no-one who bought the download has made it available. The band only has 45k monthly listeners on Spotify (that figure may be skewed by their reluctance to release to the service). By contrast Karliene, one of those quite attractive ladies who seems to get by releasing movie/geek friendly singles has 178k. Still, AP have managed to keep going for 25+ years.

waaah waaah go cry about it

For me, concert films or regristrations of Broadway musicals are not actually films!

oh isnt it just so unfair!!!1!!1!

For me, a film is something in which went real effort from MANY, MANY people!

this is EXTREMELY ignorant. SO much work from SO many people went into this. its not just someone standing there for 3 & 1/2 hours. its a GIGANTIC show unlike anything anyone else has done. i'll list it off for you

  1. there's her writing and singing the songs and playing the instruments for them, relentlessly practicing the choreography until it's subconscious, being the star if the show, etc...
  2. the choreographer
  3. her amazing dancers
  4. her backup vocalists (the starlights)
  5. her incredible band (the agency) some of which have been with her since the beginning of her career 18 years ago
  6. the people that build/take apart the ginormous stage of which theres two copies of because its so big and so much work to construct and deconstruct that they have to take the other one to the next stadium (which is the only thing it fits in because its so big) and start building it so its ready for when she has to be there for the next show, and take the other stage and repeat
  7. the people that designed the stuff like that with her
  8. the light techs
  9. the audio techs 10.the visuals video & live taylor video techs
  10. the cameramen
  11. the security guards
  12. the people that designed and/or made taylor & her dancers designer outfits
  13. her makeup artist
  14. her hair stylist
  15. the people helping her back/under stage doing stuff and helping her while she changes her costumes
  16. the director of this movie
  17. THE EDITORS OF THIS MOVIE. do you even understand what that takes. im definitely forgetting some because theres so many people and so much work. and the best part is that taylor ALWAYS acknowledges these people. during the shows. which clearly shows that you dont know what youre talking about because if you did you would know that. this was filmed in august and released in october. of 2023.

You got actors that study the most iconic and beautiful lines in their head

she doesnt HAVE TO study the lines because SHE WROTE THEM. she wrote the songs and came up with the things she says/speeches in between them. she also has incredible dancers doing the choreography with/around her.

and wear the best outfits,

almost all of her outfits in this show are designer. with multiple variations that she chooses from each night. and they're beautiful.

going into the role of a totally different person.

the whole point is that she's pretty much authentically herself and her songs are usually about her life. but she also makes fictional stuff. most of folklore & evermore are fiction. she does go into a character sometimes, like in tolerate it where the stage is basically set up like a play and she puts on this whole act with one of her dancers being the co-star. but if you actually knew what you were talking about you would know that.

You need the underpaid writings to write such good lines and dialogue.

see point 4. she DOESNT need writers to write the lines or dialogue because SHE. WRITES. IT. HERSELF.

Directors are needed to let everything go fine

this has a director. concert films usually have directors. the director of this is sam wrench.

and cameramen are there to make the most beautiful shots.

such a face-palm🤦🏻‍♂️. OBVIOUSLY there a cameramen. getting gorgeous shots. it 100% wouldnt look the way it does without them. you could literally see the extra ones that aren't usually there running around her onstage with the cameras on the nights this was being filmed. i watched it live.

Most of the films need CGI workers to bring the most incredible shots to live,

i'll give you the benefit of the doubt for that typo. this does have cgi. or whatever it is. in a lot of the visuals that she's been using on the screens for the concerts. AND in the movie. SPOILER but for reputation theres a titanoboa sized snake wrapping around the huge stage that obviously wasnt there in person that we had no idea about until we saw the movie for the first time.

and for the directors that don't use CGI like Nolan, they crash real Boeing-747's and drop real nukes if they could!

contrary to popular belief, taylor swift isnt crashing boeings and dropping bombs. and unfortunately snakes that big are extinct.

And than they go striking because the studios pay unfairly!

thats why taylor didnt go with any distribution and her dad just went straight to the head of amc theatres for the release of the movie. taylor swift is literally sag-aftra.

But during the strikes, there was one girl, one stupid girl

a WOMAN* who is a member of the union, who is a clever businesswoman. "you know you that bitch when you cause all this conversation"

with a more stupid fandom behind here,

keep telling yourself that. anything to make yourself feel better. to help you sleep at night. im laughing at you.

that could just do whatever she wanted because she's Taylor Swift.

yup.

Than you got the Swifties cult behind her, who are more biased than any other fan of a certain franchise or brand to ever exist.

and what are you? (b i a s e d) everyone has biases especially when its something youre a fan of.

Than you get the fact that concert films are easily ranked so much higher than most masterpieces, because a concert film got a whole different kind of critiria than regular films!

uh oh somebody call the crier department

That way, concert films and musical regristrations are treated like actual films, while they don't got any right so because it's a whole different type of sport.

oh no!!!!!!! something with a ton of work and talent that was 17 years in the making got treated like it deserves recognition!!!!!!!!!!!! get the authorities!!!

The same would be if we would compare soccer/football and basketball, or apples with pears!

talking nonsense at this point. this metaphor doesnt work.

We just can't do that! Instead, go to your theater and watch an actual film and not a concert made into a film for no reason!

dont tell me what to watch... i love music, and hating on it and musicals is just sad. youre missing out because you want to complain and be bitter. there is a reason. multiple, actually. concerts are commonly pro-shot because its the way to archive them, and so people can go and rewatch it whenever they want after that show is no longer being put on. and this was specifically a way for people like me who dont get to go to these shows to experience it. people were trading friendship bracelets like they do at the concert.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom,

dont care

Oppenheimer, Barbie,

im going to watch it i just havent yet💀 i dont usually go the theaters

Napoleon,

can i just watch the hamilton film? oh sorry thats a sore spot for you....

Five Nights At Freddy's,

i actually grew up watching markiplier play it but it came out the same day as 1989tv and like i said i dont usually go to theaters, i still havent seen it, but i will. i promise. for you.

Wonka,

i just watched it today... thanks for the movie recs but i'd rather just enjoy my time consuming what i feel like instead of being miserable and insufferable.

litterly anything that isn't a cashgrab like the Eras Tour non-film...

its not a cash grab... go back a few points and reread if you need to.

this is such a bad take that i keep seeing people spew. go listen to folklore and try saying she doesnt deserve to be critically acclaimed. anyway, the new version of this MOVIE comes out later today :) i WILL be watching and enjoying.

No worries. The number of users voting for "TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR (2023)" is too low to be significant, when compared with the two other movies mentioned.

" Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)": 80% (19128 users)

"Oppenheimer (2023)": 81% (7118 users)

"TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR (2023)": 84% (270 users)

Besides, it seems to be more unfair for Swifties that Hollywood didn't even consider this movie worthy enough to nominate for any Oscars. Concert films are usually ignored and can only be considered eligible as a documentary if they adhere to special rules.

If the audience had the choice (popular vote) - People's Choice Awards - then "TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR (2023)" would have been considered a movie like any other, and be one of the big winners.
