Bokeem Woodbine has range. His portrayal of Cleon in Dead Presidents was remarkable.

We met him in Vietnam, and he was, well, downright scary. If you've seen this movie, you know what I'm talking about.

But, then, what we come to know of him "back in the world" is diametrically opposite, such that we're really struck with the lengths some people had to go in order to just cope with the stress of jungle combat in a war with no direction.

I don't recall a Vietnam movie that captures this contrast anywhere near as well as Bokeem did in Dead Presidents.

Bravo.

I've always been impressed with this guy since first seeing Strapped, which came out a couple years before this one. Something very unique about his acting style. Totally agree how well he showed his range here...His Nam scenes definitely stood out, just the expression on his face after he chopped off the head and stared a hole into it was seriously chilling.

If I've seen Strapped (1993), I'm overdue for a review 'cause I don't remember it. However, he was also very good in two very different movies - Life (1999) and Devil.

Strapped was pretty good I thought, at least somewhat underappreciated when it comes to early 90s hood movies. Woodbine did great and having Michael Biehn was a nice bonus. They played off each other well. I didn't realize Forest Whitaker was behind it until not long ago.

I'll have to check out Life again & didn't care much for Devil but Bokeem was good as usual. Another standout performance was in Caught Up, average movie but he really showed his chops there.
