Discuss Beyond Re-Animator

There are several glaring problems in the movie, but a select few really jumped out at me.

First of all, why would Dan Cain ever turn state's evidence against Herbert? I know he wanted a normal life, but I don't think he'd ever do something like that to Herbert.

Another problem was thinking we'd care about the new character, Howard. Why did the movie spend so much time focusing on a character we don't know or feel anything for? Again, this is a complaint on the lack of Bruce Abbott as Dan Cain, who is the perfect foil for Herbert and the movie feels empty without him.

The other problem is that there aren't enough normal characters for Herbert to seem insane by comparisson. Instead, Herbert came off as one of the most rational people in the whole movie.

What do you think? What were the movies biggest flaws?
