For the first point I draw your attention to the fact that Ho Chi Minh mass-murdered thousands of landlords in North Vietnam in the 1950's(Ken Burns showed this). His first murdered victim was a beautiful lady landowner named Nguyen Thi Nam. (Ho brutally murdered her while she was in prison helpless!)

The second point is about another beautiful lady--Kay Lenz. Was her character not shown as coming to the house earlier? Then she seems to be coming to the house only at the end? You need to have seen the movie!
