Why is this rated so low?

It's 69 here, 73 at imdb and 75 at RT. I saw it in its original release (did not know the twist) and thought it was a different, interesting, well-acted tale even before we got to the twist. IMO it deserves a higher score just for the twist alone.

I can see how some might read misogyny into part of it, but I agree with you guys. It's a tricky film, for sure.

It's 3.6/5 on Letterboxd. It's all about the crowd buddy. Compared to IMDb and Letterboxd this site ratings are suspect due to low amount of users: only 671 ratings for a movie released in 1990's. So the ratings could be skewed either way. So I don't even bother with the ratings on this site. I am here for the "interface".
