The imagination in this one is insane. Though I do slightly prefer the first film. This one did slack big time on Hellboy's one liners, which thanks to Perlman's perfect delivery made the first film a joy.

You'd think Del Toro would jump at the chance of making a third film considering how passionate he is about the material.

Del Toro and Perlman came close to doing a third film together, but the personal and business relationship between Del Toro and one of the executive producers - a personal friend of Perlman - soured, which killed the project. Del Toro and this other guy (can't remember his name) refused to work together, and Perlman wouldn't do the film without his producer buddy being on-board. So we got the reboot with David Harbour, instead.

I'm not a fan of Perlman's personality or his politics, but he's a good actor, and made Hellboy a fun character. I'm disappointed that they couldn't make a third film happen, but that's Hollywood for you.

I loved the first one too (I'll have to give it a rewatch if I can find it), but I don't remember laughing (good laughter) so much during the first one.
