I had an issue with my applications not able to locate this movie because it keeps searching Mysterious Skin 2005, and not 2004.
All over the web it is labeled Mysterious Skin (2004) - if we use the USA release date it's 2005.
What's the criteria on TMDB for release year, global or usa?

You can check out the guidelines that explain how the system determines the year of a film here. It's dependent on release date type (premiere, theatrical, etc.), nothing else.
