I thought I'd get the board started for this phenomenal film (4.5 stars from me on the TMDB scale). Great performances all around.
If nothing else, what did we learn from this film?

easy to say after the fact but yes....if she did that there is no movie. But she apparently had some major problems going on in her life. couldn't function without her husband after he left her. something similar happened to my brother. Not as dramatic as a house being sold from under you but still for him it was pretty bad. He also didn't check his mail for a simple traffic ticket he forgot about as he moved out of his apartment and didn't forward his mail to new place. didn't pay the fine, didn't go to court, a failure to appear warrant was put out on him. He drove around for next 6 months and his license was suspended. He was pulled over eventually. All told his simple $180 speeding ticket turned into almost $2,500 in court fines and other fees. He had to take out a loan to pay it all off which added almost another $1,000 dollars in interest

RCH2288--
I am sorry to hear about your brother's predicament. Quite a few people have been caught with a "bench warrant", often after committing unintentional/minor crimes. And yes, in this film Kathy was certainly going through a lot of mental anguish, leading her to overlook simple everyday things, such as checking the mail. Thank you for replying and helping me get this board started:)

The book is great. I highly recommend. They did a great job of adapting it into the movie.

it's not that easy, one should not be losing house for minor sum of money, when they move away and forget to forward their mail, that's just ridiculous and there must be more reasonable ways to deal with this like confiscate property of equivalent value, they do something like this in Austria when you fall to have money for fine, they can confiscate your car stereo (in old times before they were all built in) or car as deposit

Thanks, that is interesting... i didn't know it was a book adaptation...
It seems that there was a lot of thought given to the characterisations, their backgrounds, their mindsets, what matters to each of them and their way of looking at the world...
Very good film
