Yes, and the elevator scene too because it caught you off guard not knowing what was going to happen.
As the other commenter said, though, it was far-fetched in a sense because how did he/she killer know that Kate would leave her wedding ring in the room and go back up to that floor that she/he was waiting there.

The killer didn't know that.
He was standing in front of the elevator doors on the 7th floor after Angie Dickinson went into that elevator and left that floor.
Before that, he was waiting for Angie Dickinson on the 7th floor behind the door leading to the fire stairs.
And after that, he was just waiting for the elevator to exit the building and keep following Angie Dickinson.
You can notice that after the mother and the little girl exit, the elevator starts going up before Angie Dickinson push the button for the 7th floor.
Even if it's not shown, the killer certainly pushed the button to call the elevator before she did it.

I don't think it is a classic. The story is far fetched but I did like the way Brian De Palma directed it.
