Indeed. Not one to watch if you're dead tired.

I actually wondered why you wrote that, until I caught the reference to Arnold's pun in the film there. Someone needs to write an article about how that little trend caught on of making puns about how people die in these films.

Lol

If Matrix was here, he'd laugh too.

Mad Max: Fury Road is the perfect action movie imo. Not one minute wasted in that, for sure.

Ugh, no. It's a decent movie, but the villain is so noodle-armed (and wearing chainmail? really?) that I never took him as a serious threat to Schwarzenegger. If I were to rank Schwarzenegger action movies it'd look something like this:

  1. True Lies
  2. Predator
  3. Terminator 2
  4. Terminator
  5. Conan the Barbarian
  6. The Last Action Hero
  7. Commando
  8. Red Heat
  9. Eraser
  10. Raw Deal
  11. Red Sonja
  12. Conan the Destroyer
  13. ...and everything else

Bill Duke makes Commando credible, but the rest of the guys in the film are simply way, way too weak to be believable. If if we take Schwarzenegger out of the equation and all you want is a big, dumb action movie from the '80's I'd put Tango & Cash way above Commando. And there's probably a 1:1 ratio of explosions, though for tree-carrying Commando comes out ahead.

But hey, I'm just letting off some steam.

PS. Some would wonder what I was smoking to like The Last Action hero, but having returned to it several times I think it's a fun parody of Schwarzenegger's image and movies and he acquits himself pretty well in it.

*1 Commando *2 Predator *3 Raw Deal *4 The Running Man *5 Red Heat

I'm not entirely convinced though that being credible or believable are anywhere near as high up on Commando's list of priorities as simply being Awesome 😉

Such a guilty pleasure. Very 1980s!

Bill Duke seems to have always had the right look for a bad-ass action villain. He did a solid job acting in the drama American Gigolo. And he can direct thoughtful, introspective features, too.

Bill Duke is one of those actors that is always welcome in any movie. He could have made Plan 9 From Outer Space watchable. In fact, I'm going to make a topic about "Character Actors That Immediately Make a Movie Better." :)

Dude. Where's Total Recall on that list? It might be the most rewatchable film ever made. I'd be hard pressed to choose between T2 and Recall as Arnie's best.

Good to see some love for True Lies. Criminal that Cameron still hasn't released a blu ray.

Definitely.

"Como esta!"

"You'll have to excuse my friend. He's dead tired."

"Let off some steam, Bennett."

"Did you leave anything for us?"..."Just bodies."

The toolshed scene has to be one of the funniest action sequences of all time.....and when he jumps off the roof 100 feet up and lands without a scratch...

"Stick Around!"

Wrong film.

Word is that it's coming soon. And I completely forgot to put Total Recall on the list. Bad oversight. I'd rank it as #1 on my list. Only movie I saw in the theater five times.

Commando, another 80's classic.

Talking about True Lies, I think that is the only movie I've ever seen that had no "dead spots". Very well edited, IMO.
