I love this expertly made version of the classic and timeless Dickens tale, especially with the dark, moody tone throughout, and the stark cinematography. David Lean does an excellent job with directing this, and the acting is spot-on as well. I couldn't get over Alec Guinness' portrayal of the villainous Fagin, with his cackle and creepy voice. I could hardly believe that that was in fact Alec Guinness at all! His performance was the one that stood out to me in this film, but the casting overall was well-done and did a very good job of populating the Dickensian world of young Oliver Twist.
