I watched this film because I thought Brian de Palma - how bad could it be? Answer - pretty bad!! I saw very little passion in this film - indeed most of the cast recited their lines with a complete lack of expression. The dialogue and the acting were dire. The plot - veering between dream and reality was completely lacking in logic and plausibility. I laughed aloud at the scene where the death of the twin sister was described and the moronic declaration of love was offered with a completely expressionless face. The only emotion in the entire film was when NR crashed her car. The whole idea of the murder being filmed "secretly" and the scene where NR carefully dons a mask and takes out a knife before entering the building was so silly. And what was the business with the shoes? Did the reds or the blues have any significance whatsoever? Eh - no. And the ending made no sense - I suppose I shouldn't have expected any as the rest of the film didn't either. One question - the ballet - were they really dancers - they seemed somewhat limited to me. And why do a split screen with them if she wasn't even there? I hate split screens - it's just distracting. A waste of my time and everybody else's.

Not sure if the dancers were real but the film itself, like you say, was terrible. I couldn't believe de Palma did this. The lighting, sets and production values were really amateurish.
Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams are better than this. Just seemed like the film was trying to be arty but ended up a complete mess.

I thought it was fun and a lot more cinematic than many movies today, which look like TV and have little in the way of verve, or visual style...

It's even worse if you've seen the original film this one was based on. This remake doesn't even use the best part of the original, instead substitutes the dumb twin sister plot point and ending fakeout. Very disappointing.
