In the novel of PS, it stated that along time ago there came an ancient psychic homicidal cannibalistic trickster spirit demon called a Wendigo which is seen in Native American/Canadian folklore whom if you are touched by one you turn into a cannibal according to the legends encountered the Micmac ground of a tribe. It touched some members of the tribe to turn them into vicious cannibals then the good Micmac Indians killed the bad cannibal indians then buried them in the ground, however the Wendigo cursed the Micmac burial ground for the curse consequences would be if any dead body of any living thing is buried there, they will be reanimated in a day as a bad shell of their former self. The Indians left the area to resettle somewhere else after that, over the years the Wendigo reanimated any dead animal buried in the ground as they come back dumb and uncaring, however one bull came back real mean. For dead humans buried in the ground however, the Wendigo resurrected the corpses and took over their bodies as it's vessel as the resurrected creatures are not zombies mind you, zombies are just dumb dead creatures, the PS resurrected are very different.

They are really more like Deadites in a way with a hint of Reagan/Gemini Killer from Exorcist 1 & 3 in terms of demon possessed corpses who return as demons themselves. The corpses who are demonically possessed by the Wendigo like Timmy Batterman or Gage for example whom come back with yellow eyes plus can make different voices of other people even shift faces and know secrets/skeletons in living human's closets especially when in the novel Gage talked like an adult with a dirty mouth especially when he says "I just wanna fuck with you" when he killed Jud plus some can do some cannibalism like after Gage killed his mom, he ate bits of her flesh by her face. The Wendigo is like Pazuzu/Legion in a way you know.
