小飛俠 Peter Pan 是一個永遠長不大的孩子，他帶領睡夢中的 Wendy 以及她的兩位弟弟遠離倫敦，來到神奇的夢幻島，在夢幻島上有失落的孩子們、美人魚、印第安人，還有無惡不作的虎克船長及他所率領的海盜們。 華特迪士尼本人拍片一向都隨心所欲，根本不管市場主流為何，只拍自己想拍的。在戰後困頓實務為先的環境裡，華特迪士尼違反寫實主義的主流推出像《愛麗絲夢遊仙境》這樣充滿幻想色彩的片子，當時並未獲得青睞，但迪士尼不受影響兩年後又推出幻想成份濃厚的《小飛俠1953》，不過這兩部片子都是早在大戰前就已有計畫，但是一切卻因為美國參戰後而宣告停擺，因為迪士尼面臨員工被徵兵、片場被挪作軍事用途…等衝擊，一直到了戰爭結束，迪士尼才又把塵封多年的計畫又拿出來，終於在開始計畫十多年後才登上大螢幕。由此看出華特迪士尼不隨市場起舞的風格，只拍自己想拍的電影。
