I like it a lot also, one of my favorite 80's horror films and far better than all the Halloween sequels that came after it.

I agree 100%! It's nice to see Halloween III getting some respect as of late. I watch it every Halloween.

Michael Myers died in Halloween 2 and should have remained dead.

If it were up to John Carpenter, MM would've stayed "gone" after the ORIGINAL Halloween...his intention was ALWAYS to do a yearly Halloween anthology of movies, Season of the Witch would've potentially been H2...but Universal wanted a continuation of the story in Halloween...so with lots of alcohol in hand & a little inspiration from Empire Strikes Back (the whole "sister" thing was made up for 2), he unknowingly painted himself into a corner ...the character was more popular & iconic then he would've cared for..killing his yearly anthology of Halloween movies idea after H3's failure..I'm a huge MM fan, but its a shame what COULD'VE been eh?

As for H3..it was a good movie, not a GREAT movie..a little slow at times...movie running time could've been cut by some "walking around" fluff by about 10-15 minutes. And seeing Atkins as some kind of "playa"...lol.

Not sure if I'd rank it 2nd behind the original..I know I'm in the minority, but I got a soft spot for H6! Maybe it was that time in my life, but it gave me the creeps...some of the subliminal images, MM still being an unstoppable force AND a little "loco" Paul Rudd...

@jorgito2001, which version of 6 do you prefer?

I saw a very rough cut of the Producer's Cut way back (terrible picture)...I bought the recent rerelease and have to watch it to make a better assessment. I still like the theatrical cut despite its problems!

Theatrical version is better than producers cut but neither are good however I still rate them both higher than Resurrection and Rob Zombie's abominations.

I have the producer's cut on bluray as part of the 15 disc boxset but never watched the extras, I think I may rectify that later.

My take on the hate for Halloween III comes from my own initial reaction to seeing it the first time.

I love the Quatermass films, especially the first 2 with Brian Donlevy. So having a quasi remake of Quatermass 2 (with Tom Atkins essentially reprising the role of "action scientist") was right up my alley.

Where the creators screwed up was when Dr. Chaliss went to the bar, and on the TV they played a trailer to the original Halloween film. This was a BIG MISTAKE. Now, it may sound stupid, but what pissed me off was that the movie was saying that Halloween was a movie. Okay, it is a movie... but a movie inside your Halloween movie?! It was as if the director was saying "Oh, you wanted Michael Myers? Here you go! Screw you!"

Halloween III could and still could be easily saved, considering the miracles fan editors on fanedit.org are capable of. If instead of having a stupid commercial for Halloween (and having Dr. Chaliss watch Halloween in the prison cell) they could have had a news broadcast talking about things happening in Northern California, and then for the rest of the country, they mention mental patients from the Smith's Grove Sanitarium escaping the previous night in Illinois. If they synched the timeline of Halloween and Halloween II with Halloween III, it would have suggested that Michael Myers was one of thousands of supernatural events happening during the Halloween of 1978, which would have further solidified the events of Halloween as fact in your Halloween sequel, but also opened the door to the anthology series Carpenter wanted to do. He could have had an infinite number of Halloween stories happening all around the world, with the only caveat being that all of the films take place in 1978.
