You might not like the story if you believe the original one is depicted in Disney's Movie. Actually the Benigni's film tells the original tale of pinocchio (please check it on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Pinocchio).
His performance as Pinocchio is funny (in many ways) and might be strange instead of seeing a kid but the rest is awesome and the story is both fun and education.
Of course you could dislike the film anyway but the fact is: that's the actual account of the tales of Pinocchio.

This is the same logic many Stephen King fans use when arguing that the 1997 mini-series adaptation of "Shining", produced by Stephen King, is better than the 1980 movie version because it follows the book closely.
This movie was awful, just as the 1997 "Shining" mini-series was awful. Acting, directing, casting choices (most of the child characters being portrayed by the adult actors)... it doesn't matter if it follows the book closely. It is awful in so many aspects that that overshadows it.
