Yes, I think it would have been better for the first disney "black" princess to be an African princess. It would have been nice to see a story taking place centered around African mythology - with people. I'm sure that many tribes and nations have myths and legends like that, so why didn't disney adapt a story from one of them?
Having this story take place during a time of segregation, when black people could only work as domestics was not necessary. If every other disney princess had a movie centered on their traditional cultures, then why not show the glory and richness of Africa through the eyes of a princess?
