Discuss Mulholland Drive

The scene near the beginning where the man dies of a heart attack after seeing the man that lives behind the Winkie's. I completely forgot even though I have had it explained to me before. It's been a while.

I don't think he dies of a heart attack, only collapses from shock. I think it might've played a bigger role in the pilot than in the film but Lynch must've decided to keep it in. Considering the subject matter of Mulholland Dr. I'd guess it's there to add another layer to the dream/wake narrative, as the man who collapses recounts a dream he had which shortly thereafter comes true.

He is Dane, another personality of Diane, the bum is all the ugly part of her she wishes doesn't exist.

Dane or Dan? The cast list has the character named Dan.

The way I see it, Diane Selwyn needs to"get rid of" Dan because she fears that he overheard her and the hitman plotting to kill Camilla Rhodes at Winkies in the scene shown near the end.
