This movie is scary as all hell when you first see it. Turning up to your house to see others living there? Your little brother as a teenager? Then the cosmic music? It felt like some sort of supernatural horror movie.
But then it became a kids movie with pee-wee Herman voicing the alien craft. It seemed to work better before that plot turn.
I loved the design of the craft and was saddened to see it on the universal studios tour. It had been left outside and destroyed by the elements.
I saw a watch that reminded me of the craft and bought it. http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/1more/jg2081-57l.html
It was my daily watch for years and got scratched up. I bought a new one this year and will keep it as a collectable. It only looks spacey with the shiny look.

Agreed. I liked the ending but that last act got pretty corny and Pee-Wee was just more annoying than funny. I felt similarly about Explorers when the aliens showed up.

I've never seen Explorers. I just saw a trailer and was surprised to see such a young Ethan Hawke. I'll have to give this a viewing. Thanks
