It's great how this movie is shot... No talking heads and over the shoulder TV style scenes... Not bathed in orange and teal... Has atmosphere at times, clarity at others, darkness, light, still compositions as well as scenes of motion... Colour, even in it's dire wartime setting.
So good... A real movie looking movie... entirely non-TV... I think current filmmakers should study this movie to examine just how much can be done visually, even in simple scenes of people talking together, or scenes of silence...

Not a reference to 2049, just a comment on the overuse of orange and tral colour grading in general...
But yes, the art design on Empire of the Sun was good, so many objects used throughout the movie to give texture to what was going on and to show the passage of time and give context to the movie... High quality movie
