I agree, it's a marvelous animation and a really great adaptation.

It was the first, but it isn't the only animated film to be nominated in that category.

Up was nominated for Best Picture in 2010, and Toy Story 3 was nominated for the award in 2011.

Problem was until Beauty and the Beast filmed was nominated,there WAS no animated section of the Oscars, so it actually got a "normal" Oscar for Best Picture. Up and Toy Story 3 can't get that credit.

Oh. Didn´t know it was possible for a picture to be nominated in Best Feature **and **Best Animated Feature. No I do. Thx. More trivia is always a good thing ;)

Best animated feature was not invented until 2001 but so neat this was nominated for best picture before that.

It wasn't until 2001 when best animated feature was made
