I inbördeskrigets kaotiska Sierra Leone under 90-talet får vi möta Danny Archer, en sydafrikansk legosoldat och fiskaren Solomon Vandy. Båda är afrikaner men deras bakgrund är så olika de kan vara, tills ödet för dem samman i en gemensam jakt på en sällsynt rosa diamant som kan förändra deras liv. Under en fängelsevistelse får Archer reda på att Solomon - som har tagits från sin familj och tvingats jobba på diamantfältet – har hittat och gömt den ovanliga råstenen. Till sin hjälp har han Maddy Bowen, en amerikansk journalist vars idealism fått sig en törn av bekantskapen med Archer. De två männen beger sig ut på en jakt genom ogästvänliga territorier, en resa som kan rädda Solomons familj och ge Archer den andra chans han trodde han aldrig skulle få.

FN hade bakbundna händer, fick inte ingripa utan bara stå och se på hur slakten inleddes.

We meet ornithologist Anna in 1994 just as genocide is raging in Rwanda, perpetrated by the majority Hutus against the Tutsis. Anna manages to save the daughter of a colleague whose family has been murdered, and she takes her to Poland. But the woman returns to Rwanda to visit the graves of her loved ones. The director originally worked on the movie with her husband Krzysztof Krauze (My Nikifor – Crystal Globe, KVIFF 2005), but after his death in 2014 she eventually finished this challenging picture alone.

The three Tutsi women tell the camera about their daily lives during the genocide and in the refugee camps of Murambi and Nyarushishi, where they lived a nightmare under the guard of the French soldiers of the Opération Turquoise who, under a UN mandate, where supposed to protect them. While the French army denies any rape accusation, the three women filed complaints with the French justice system in 2004 and 2012. The investigation is now at a standstill.
