這一天，正在過生日的小狗小逗（Dug）在荒野上散步賞花。不料，他卻無心阻擋了正在追逐巨鳥凱文的同伴發哥（Alpha）、B咖（Bata）、馬弟（Gamma）。憤怒的發哥決定給小逗一個「特別任務」，好讓他不要妨礙到自己追尋巨鳥。

第一個「任務」是看守一塊「巨鳥最喜歡的」巨石。然而專心看守的小逗不慎讓一塊小石子碰上了風化嚴重的巨石，使他滾下山崖並正好困住了剛剛離開的發哥。第二個「任務」是坐在一個「巨鳥最喜歡的」石洞裡。結果小逗的體重讓洞內的沙子下沉，並最終和小逗一起落在了埋伏在洞另一個出口的發哥身上。接下來的任務有坐在孤零零的巨石上，或者讓小逗遠離剛布設好的陷阱。每一次的結果卻都是發哥等人倒了大霉。最終在小逗弄塌了一大片石柱並把追隨而來的發哥等人弄下懸崖之後，被鬱悶的發哥宣言要對小逗報仇，然後控訴到主人蒙茲（Muntz）那裡，說他一直在阻礙他們抓住巨鳥，並且是一隻壞狗。

傷心地小逗獨自跑開，電台里B咖和馬弟還在挖苦他。小逗走入一片霧蒙蒙的岩石堆，在這裡他意外遇到了正在前往仙境瀑布的卡爾和小羅。於是他發現自己得到了生日願望－找到一個新的主人。影片的最後和《天外奇蹟》的劇情連接，小羅吩咐小逗被說話時，他說「你好！」卡爾和小羅受驚訝。
