U veljači 2000. iz američke vojne baze u Južnoj Koreji ispuštene su toksične kemikalije u rijeku Han. Šest godina kasnije, iz rijeke izranja čudovišna riba-gmaz i počne napadati stanovnike Seula. Čudovište zgrabi djevojčicu Hyun-seo i odnese ju sa sobom u rijeku, a njen otac, ostali članovi njegove obitelji i drugi građani koji su došli u dodir s nemani, završe u karanteni. Every night while the city sleeps, Ahmad, a former Pakistani rock star turned immigrant, drags his heavy cart along the streets of New York.
