片中叙述一个名叫约翰尼的男孩，来到美国南方的农场，由于父亲远离，使男孩成天闷闷不乐，一位慈祥乐观的黑人雷默斯叔叔则讲了寓言故事给约翰尼听，教他放宽胸怀，以克服人生旅程的逆境。华特迪士尼从少年时代就很喜欢“雷默斯叔叔”的故事，终于在1946年推出这部真人与动画合演的杰作，以往迪士尼真人动画电影都只是短片而已，这次是首度向长篇剧情片挑战，片中最主要的动画成份是摆在雷默斯叔叔的故事里，是关于一只想找寻新天地的兔子，却被一只狐狸和一只狗熊所纠缠不清现。本片的音乐成份非常重要，片中的主题曲“Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah”不但荣获奥斯卡，更是耳熟能详的迪士尼名曲之一。本片将旧时美国南方纯朴的生活型态充分显现，但由于牵涉到一些敏感的黑白种族问题，当时一推出就曾遭到不少影评抨击，即使本片开出漂亮的票房、有金像奖的肯定，迪士尼一直到现在都还未在美国本地发行本片的影音产品。
