フランスの田舎町に暮らす夢見がちな少女ベルは、捕らえられた発明家の父を救出しに行った森の中の古城で、恐ろしい姿をした野獣と対面する。野獣はかつてわがままな王子だったが、魔法によって姿を変えられ、21歳の誕生日までに誰かを愛さなければ元の姿に戻れないという呪いをかけられていた。いつしか惹かれ合うベルと野獣だったが、一方、ベルに想いを寄せる乱暴者ガストンが野獣を倒すため森の城に向かっていた。
